The Newnan High School vs. Marietta High School football match-up was featured by WSB-TV in Atlanta as the Game of the Week for September 4.  The game garnered the highest voting percentage online and beat out Etowah vs. Cherokee, Harrison vs. East Coweta, Mill Creek vs. Dacula, and Salem vs. Heritage as other possible televised games.

NHS traveled to Marietta to take on the Blue Devils and walked away with a convincing 27-7 victory on the road.

A major portion of NHS’s student section traveled the distance to attend the game, and the excitement of the crowd was evident throughout the Cougar triumph.

“It was a great experience and atmosphere,” Coach Mike McDonald, NHS Head Football Coach commented.  “I was happy to be a part of it.”

Newnan’s senior quarterback Chancellor Johnson was able to connect with P.J. Harris for a 4-yard touchdown that gave the Cougars a 14-0 lead heading into the half.

Marietta was unable to recover in the second half after fumbling during back-to-back possessions which led to ten points for Newnan and an insurmountable 24-7 lead that became an eventual 27-7 lead.

“It’s an honor and always exciting to get Game of the Week,” Mr. Jeff Bryant, NHS Athletic Director, said.  “It’s great for the kids. We’re playing well, and it’s good to be 2-0.”
