Despite an early bus departure, rain and a muddy course the NHS Cross Country Team represented Newnan well at the Atlanta Classic early Saturday morning. The meet was held at Clinton Farms in Villa Rica.

The five kilometer race was a double loop. The majority of the race took place in the woods. Three hay bale jumps made the course a little more exciting for spectators.

The Varsity Girls ran against a competitive field of 14 teams. The rain picked up right as the race began resulting in a slippery and muddy wooded course. The girls did not let the rain stop them.

Mary Douglass Hallman lead the girls with a 21:24. Caroline Thomas followed Hallman with a 23:08 finishing time. Next Mallory Greene and Julia Sanders finished closely with a 24:09 and 24:15 respectively. Gabby Freeman rounded out the top five with a 24:29. Emily Flournoy and Sydney Hall were the final two for the Girls Varsity team with times of 25:05 and 25:17.
